Tennis scoring rules, how to keep score in tennis

Hello Atlanta tennis group and friends, Most of you know the rules of tennis but for those that don't here are the scoring of points in tennis.

If a player(s)in the case of either singles or doubles, wins his first point, the score is called 15 for that player(server gives there score first and are responsible to giving the score after each piont)(scoring goes 15, 30, 40 game); on winning his second point, the score is called 30 for that player; on winning his third point, the score is called 40 for that player, and the fourth point won by a player is scored game for that player except as below:- If both players have won three points, the score is called deuce; and the next point won by a player is scored advantage for that player. If the same player wins the next point, he wins the game; if the other player wins the next point the score is again called deuce; and so on, until a player wins the two points immediately following the score at deuce, when the game is scored for that player.

My Favorite Workout, Cardio Tennis, with TV producer Julie Bitton from Article in the AJC

What she found: Cardio tennis. "I felt like this was a win-win. Not only would I get my cardiovascular in, but I would be practicing my strokes," she says. The past year she's been taking cardio tennis classes with Jeff Michaud of Fitness With Jeff. He coaches on courts all over Atlanta. For Bitton, it's an opportunity to work on her game and her figure at the same time.
A breakdown of her sport: A typical one-hour class consists of tennis-style drills. Think hitting the ball, doing footwork, running up to the net, going cross-court. "You're just moving the whole time," says Bitton. "In cardio tennis you're basically playing tennis; you're doing three shots back to back along the baseline. And then maybe you go up to the net for the next shot and then you run back. You're getting your tennis practice in as well. That's what I like about it."
Who else can do it: While Bitton is an intermediate-level player, she says that anyone can do this, whether the participant is a tennis novice or a semi-pro. "You're playing against the coach. You're moving fast and he's critiquing you. That's the cool thing about it."
Why it works for her: With a busy work schedule, she likes the fact that this is something she can do in the evenings and on the weekends. "Because our weather is so beautiful in Atlanta, I do it after work. I feel like it really fits into my lifestyle. I try to be consistent and go twice a week," she says.
Benefits: In the past year, Bitton has lost 10 pounds but she adds, "I could have lost more if I had been following a major diet. I definitely attribute a lot of it to getting outside and moving a lot with tennis."
She loves the fact that it's a great cardio workout and that it's toned up her legs. "It firms me up. I just feel like everything is more in place," she says with a laugh. Plus, when she's doing cardio tennis, she says she actually enjoys exercise: "Instead of getting on a treadmill and walking for an hour, I'm playing tennis, something I like to do. The hour goes very fast, and it's great."

The Right Tennis equipment for your game, a great tennis resource: I Play Tennis Atlanta

Hello Atlanta Tennis group
The Right tennis equimpent can make the all the difference to your game especially for the begginner and intermediate tennis player. All the time I will see a lady with very heavy tennis racket and a fellow swinging for instance a Head TI raquet, which is really ideal for the ladies. One solution is to find a good retailor to work with. I have 2 that I work with and recommend, First is I Play Tennis Shop in Ansley Mall at 1544 Piedmont Ave. NE 404.347.7881. Dan is terrific and extremely knowledgeable about everything from Tennis Rackets, Tennis Shoes, Tennis Balls, Bags and tennis Clothes etc. Dan has a great Selection of the newest and best in tennis supplies and equipment, also a good selection of Demo rackets for loan and resale. If you mention my name: Fitness with Jeff he will take 10% off the price for new equipment. Dan can answer almost any tennis question, I even refer players to Dan find teams. In My next report I will profile Play if Again Sports on my Personal training blog, Bill carry's all kinds of sports equimpment including tennis equipment.

Hello Atlant Tennis group, this program came out through the the USPTA, The "Little Mo" is a program of the Maureen Connolly Brinker Tennis Foundation which furthers junior tennis development for boys and girls 8, 9, 10, 11 & under. The "Little Mo" began in 1976 for Dallas players and then expanded to include all players from Texas. In 1998, the "Little Mo" expanded to a national level and the "Road to the Little Mo Nationals" was created. The "Little Mo" is a nationwide, year-long circuit of fun, competitive tournaments culminating in a national champion being crowned in each age division. The "Little Mo" tournaments offer an opportunity for the younger player to compete against others who are the same age at the sectional, regional and national level.
Do you know of a youngster who you think has the potential to be the next great American champion? If so, please pass along this information about the "Little Mo" Circuit which starts next month. The road starts with the 2008 "Little Mo" Southern Sectional Tournament held at the Sandy Springs Tennis Center (formerly North Fulton Tennis Center) in Atlanta, Georgia, from May 9th - May 11th. Tennis swing tip, hit with the other hand

Hello Atlanta tennis group, wanted to put out a usual tip for working on your game that many teaching pro's like myself use for both reenforcing good fundementals (really have to think how to do the swing correctly when trying to teach yourself how to do it from the other side) and also to avoid repetitvie motion insuries like tennis elbow and the alike: hit with our other hand, for right handers like myself hit with your left hand, for lefties hit with your right hand, this will help you to train your brain in a different way which i feels reinforces good fundementals and avoids injuries. Pro's do this because if you teach like me some days for 6 or 8 hours, giving your dominant side a break it probably needs, also gives my playes a different angle of attack for them to work on. This also works well with kids, kids break arms all the time, i just switch the kid around and he or she can learn to hit from the other side. This techinque can working with almost any sport or activity, give it a try, best to do it with less skilled player, I did it with my kid clients, they tend not to care as much.

The right shoe for tennis

Hello Atlanta tennis group, I'm seeing alot tennis players playing with the wrong shoe. The propper tennis shoe should be all leather, shoes with mesh or other materials don't give the same support, this is especially true for my lady tennis plaryers who have elevated risk of ankle injury then men. See you on the court

Tennis tip for forehand and backhand Nov 12, Swing track, important to the tennis swing

Hello Atlanta Tennis: My weekly tip is to find your swing track, this is the natural curve that you make during your swing, the idea is to be able to re-create over and over the same track of your arm. The idea is to move your feet into the track of your arm on your backhand and forehand tennis swing, most people adjust mostly using there swing to make adjustments, this does not work very well causing all kinds of errors. When you get a chance just swing the rackey in your hand over and over again using the same track. If you do this and find your track I'm sure you will improve your percentage of balls in and where you want them.

Tennis instruction tip, keep the wrist back

Hello Atlanta tennis group, here's a tip for you. Always keep your wrist back though your entire tennis swing, both forhands and backheads, very common for clients to be coming to be and there ball doesn't come straight toward me but for the right handers in particular on the forehand tennis swing for the ball to sail way wide to the left. What is happenning is the wrist is openning to early causing the player to pull the ball. What should happen is not to turn the wrist but rather to extend the arm keeping the racket flat to the ball for as long as possible. This goes for the forehand and the backhand tennis swing. From there really concentrate on hitting straight back to your partner or find a target to hit to develope the propers tennis ball placement, good luck and good hitting. http://www.fitnesswithjeff.com Atlanta
