Atlanta Round-robin tennis matches and tennis tournaments

Atlanta Round Robin Group Tennis

The City of Atlanta has several very good tennis
centers that provide a variety of programs from Cardio Tennis, tennis clinics as well as Round Robin Tennis events. The one that I work out of and recommend most highly is the Bitsy Grant Tennis Center on North Side Drive Atlanta. 2125 Northside, Atlanta, GA 30354

When you call, tell her your level. She will plug you into the draw. You will play 20minute mini doubles matches and the winner moves up the draw, losers move down. The cost is $7 on Sundays and $8 on Fridays. Mention Fitness with Jeff and they'll take $2 bucks off your first visit.

I encourage people to try to attend these, which is very good for your game. These weekly events last about 2 hours, and run Friday's and some Sunday's. These events attract everything from the low intermediate players to the very advanced players. In order to attend, you should be able to hit at least a little, serve at least 5 out of 10 balls into the service box and keep score. For more info please call the numbers below.

7:00 and Sundays 4:00.
Call Mary Craven 770-662-6162
Bitsy Grant Tennis Center 404-609-7193

The center features 12 hard surface tennis courts and 12 clay courts tht are currently being resurfaced. Scheduled re-opening is mid-November. All courts are lighted. No indoor tennis courts.

The center also offers clinics, cardio-tennis, tennis instruction and youth and senior programs and tennis tournaments though out the year.

Cardio exercise for tennis players, off season and between matches

Improving your physical fitness side is straightforward; you need to improve your endurance by ideally a minimum of 30 minutes cardiovascular activity at the right level 3 times a week.
Avoid doing your cardiovascular workout before you play your game. Both weight training exercises and explosive leg exercises such as short sprints and plyometrics can improve explosive power. Remember to work within your own limits.
Aim to spend 1 day a week doing either sprint / plyometric work. As these are both very demanding, avoid if you have a low fitness level, or any injury.
For your sprint work, try and do the sprints on the court you play on, wearing the same training shoes you play in. There are many variations, however keep them short as for your sport.
Shuttle sprints, from baseline to serving box and back, then up to the net and back. You can repeat this with either no rest or short rest. For best results run against a partner.
As above but sprint forward, and run backwards coming back.
Ball retrieval, place a number of balls across the court, sprint to each one pick it up, return it to the baseline, continue until all balls are recovered. Try timing yourself.
Partner Ball Throw, Stand with your back towards the net or wall, with your eyes shut, have your partner throw a ball in the air behind you somewhere. When they say "go", aim to reach the ball as quickly as possible, you can also aim to hit the ball over the net etc. with your racket.
North South East West, Sprint North towards the net / wall, as you get half way, side step East to the sideline / wall, then continue to sprint North. On reaching the net / wall, run backwards to halfway mark, and side step West to side line, then run back again to baseline. Take care when running backwards for ostacles and to keep your balance. Start slowly and build up. This and other drills and techniques will get you into the best possible shape.

Tennis tip for forehand and backhand Nov 12, Swing track, important to the tennis swing

Hello Atlanta Tennis: My weekly tip is to find your swing track, this is the natural curve that you make during your swing, the idea is to be able to re-create over and over the same track of your arm. The idea is to move your feet into the track of your arm on your backhand and forehand tennis swing, most people adjust mostly using there swing to make adjustments, this does not work very well causing all kinds of errors. When you get a chance just swing the rackey in your hand over and over again using the same track. If you do this and find your track I'm sure you will improve your percentage of balls in and where you want them.
